There are a lot of reasons to buy a home. We all hate the idea of throwing money away on rent, and owning a house seems to give us a real sense of home. But buying a home may not always be the best option. You may be at a time in your life where you would be better off renting for the time being. Here are some reasons to delay buying a home.

New to the Area
A very good to reason to delay buying a home is if you have just moved to an unfamiliar area or region of the country. It makes sense to rent for a number of months before deciding on exactly where you want to live.

Uncertain Job Future
You could be right out of college or expecting a promotion and a transfer. Or your company has announced an impending "restructuring." If any of these apply, it might be best to wait to buy a home.

Marital Problems
Real estate agents see a lot of life unfold before their eyes. One of the saddest occurs when former clients divorce and are forced to sell a recently purchased house.

For most people buying a home is the biggest investment they will make; that is all the more reason one should never rush into the decision. When you first move to an area you may not know which area is best to buy in. You will want to check out future development plans, crime rates, and school.

If you may be making a job change in the near future or expect a layoff, don’t buy. You could find yourself losing your home or wishing you had bought a different one. Just wait ‘til your job future is more certain. Marital problems are always unfortunate, so don’t think that buying a home will somehow make your problems better. If you do wind up divorcing you will have the added stress of figuring out what to do with your home.
